Tobacco Contracting
Contracted farmers get tobacco farming training and technical advice at every stage of production. This extension service is provided as a mandatory technical support to the contracted farmers in order for them to produce the desired leaf quality, yield and style of tobacco which suites our clientele base.
Contract Scheme
Famous Rock Private Limited directly contracts with thousands of tobacco growers in most of the tobacco growing regions of Tanzania. Through direct contracts, we are able to provide agronomic expertise and technical guidance to help growers improve the quality and yield of their crops. Direct contracting also provides us with the insight needed to provide our customers with traceable tobacco.
Agronomy
The company's extensive team of agronomists around the country works closely with contracted farmers to help them produce tobacco in a sustainable and compliant manner. We are committed to responsible crop production which ensures economic viability for the farmer, provides a safe working atmosphere for those involved in crop production and minimizes negative environmental impact. Our agronomists maintain frequent contact with growers prior to and during the growing and curing seasons to provide technical assistance to improve the quality and yield of the crop.
Famous Rock Private Limited grades most tobacco prior to purchasing it from the grower and then re-grades it when it arrives the warehouses or processing plant to better define the leaf characteristics.
Sustainable Production
Famous Rock Private Limited is fully committed in implementing sustainable agricultural methods and practices across the value chain, starting with the contracted farmer base. The company has put in place a Sustainable Agriculture Policy and Good Agricultural Practices program from the very beginning of tobacco production.
The agronomy team institute goals and programs that align with the topic of sustainable agriculture including the implementation of soil conservation efforts; such as crop rotation and cover crops.
The company is also committed in promoting sustainable agricultural methods and practices to prevent further loss of the world’s forests by implementing afforestation and reforestation programs that is operated by our agronomy team. All these efforts provide an opportunity to create carbon sinks, reducing the business’ overall carbon impact.
